Interview & Giveaway ~ THE NOVEMBER GIRL by Lydia Kang

The November Girl
by: Lydia Kang
Genre: Young Adult/Teen Fantasy Romance
Release Date: November 7, 2017
Publisher: Entangled Teen

I am Anda, and the lake is my mother. I am the November storms that terrify sailors and sink ships. With their deaths, I keep my little island on Lake Superior alive.

Hector has come here to hide from his family until he turns eighteen. Isle Royale is shut down for the winter, and there's no one here but me. And now him.

Hector is running from the violence in his life, but violence runs through my veins. I should send him away, to keep him safe. But I'm half human, too, and Hector makes me want to listen to my foolish, half-human heart. And if I do, I can't protect him from the storms coming for us.

Hi Lydia. Welcome to Read Your Writes Book Reviews. How are you?
I’m well! Getting over a cold. I’ll try not to cough on you!

I love the blurb for The November Girl. It really has me intrigued. What can you tell me about the story?
It’s about shipwrecks and storms and a love that would never have happened, if not for certain dark fairy tales.

What was your inspiration for The November Girl?
I’ve been obsessed with Lake Superior and this old song called The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, which told of a ship that sunk from a vicious November storm, called a witch. I knew someday I’d write a story that centered on the Lake and those storms, but the idea only came to me recently.

Tell me about Anda and Hector. What’s their appeal?
Anda is so weird, I tell you. She’s not quite human, so she doesn’t get the social norms and screws things up all the time. Hector is such a good guy, with so many bad circumstances set against him. I love Hector. He just wants to live without fear, and with love.

How did you come up with their names?
They just came to me. I can’t explain it. I just reached out into the void, and they popped into my head.

Tell me about your favorite scene from the book. And why is it a favorite?
I won’t say the first kiss, because that’s an obvious one! I would say the first time Anda and Hector meet. It’s electric.

You have some amazing authors praising The November Girl. What was your reaction when you saw what they had to say?
I was humbled and so very grateful. I hold my friends and their skills in high esteem—you never know if they’ll like your work, so this was amazing.

Lydia, thank you so much for your time.
Thank you for having me over! Hope you didn’t get my cold. Hehe.
